Lessons

To Create a New Lesson:

  • Click the Lessons tab on the left column to expose the sub-menu.
  • Select Add Lessons
  • Or if you are in a Lesson detail form, click on the Add Lessons button in the upper left corner

Fill out the lesson content fields completely:

Summary:  Include a goal of the lesson project, a summary of what the student will learn, and a list of materials needed for the project.

Sample:

Goal:
Connect and configure an OLED module to display information

What you will learn:
How to connect an OLED module that uses an SDA and SCL communication protocol.

What you will need:
– Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
– OLED module
– Jumper cables

Main Body Content:

In the body include instructional steps. This is the bulk of your information. For best display, use headers, bulleted lists and bold to help readers skim content quickly.

To add a header:

  • Highlight the header text
  • Click on the Paragraph drop down menu to see formatting options.
  • Select Header 2, 3, or 4
  • All styles will be consistent through website.

To add a link:

  • Highlight linked text
  • Have the destination URL on your clipboard
  • Click the link icon in the formatting bar
  • Paste URL into field
  • Hit Return

To add a video:

  • Copy share code from YouTube or Vimeo
  • Paste code into body field

To add a picture:

  • Place your cursor where you would like the image to appear,
  • Click on the Add Media icon found directly above your editor.
  • Locate the image you wish to insert and select it.
  • Recommendations: Resize your images in a photo editor for web – no more than 1000px wide, compression 60% jpg.
  • Adjust float (text floats next to image) in right column Align left, center or right or none (text will start under image)

Assign Featured Image

Featured images appear in the public website small thumbnail. They will also appear in the body text of your lesson automatically, so you don’t need to insert the featured image into text body again.

  • To upload a featured image, look in the right column of your editor for Featured Image. Click the link to “Set featured image” and the media library will open.
  • Upload a new image (if needed) by clicking the Upload Files tab in the upper left corner
  • Drag and drop or navigate to where your image is stored
  • Recommendations: Resize your images in a photo editor for web – no more than 1000px wide, compression 60% jpg.
  • Click Set featured image button in lower right corner.

Classify Your Lesson

In the right column, there will be three sets of classifications to assign. Please select the appropriate classification for audience, level and technology used. These are used to filter results on the public website.

Each lesson should be assigned to these categories:

  • Audience
  • Level
  • Technology

Save Your Lesson

  • Use the Save Draft button in the right column to save your lesson
  • All lessons will be in draft until submitted for review
  • Draft lessons are not available to the public

Submit Your Lesson (Contributors)

  • To submit your lesson for publication, click the Submit for Review button in the right column.
  • The Status will change from Draft to Pending Review.
  • A administrator will review your lesson and publish it
  • You will be notified upon publication.
  • You are able to edit it and grow the lesson after it has been published.

Publish Your Lesson (Trainers)

  • To publish your lesson to the public website, click the Publish button in the right column. If you only see an Update button, you have already Published the lesson
  • The Status will change to Published, Visibility: Public.
  • Please check your entry under the curriculum tab to ensure it is displaying as intended.
  • You are able to edit it and grow the lesson after it has been published.

To Edit a Lesson

  • Click the Lessons tab on the left column to expose the sub-menu.
  • Select View All Lessons to find a list of your lesson
  • Click on the name or rollover the name and click Edit
  • The detail view will load and you can make edits as needed
  • Save your work! Click Update in the right column
